History of the club
In the run-up to the millennium, the Hatch End Association, led by the Chair Julian Maw, were exploring ideas to mark that iconic event. One of the committee members, Wayne Owide, happened to be a triathlete and proposed a novice triathlon for adults and juniors using local facilities – the Hatch End swimming pool at the Harrow Arts Centre, the adjacent Hatch End Playing Fields, and the surrounding roads. Julian recognised that this was a marvelous opportunity and led the team that set up the very first Hatch End-Harrow (HEH) triathlon in May 2000. Initially intended as a one-off event, the HEH Triathlon was so successful that it became an annual race – that it is still going 25 years later!
Jetstream Tri Club was founded in 2005 by a small group of local parents whose children had competed in the HEH triathlon. With no triathlon club in the area catering for the junior triathlete, the group decided to start one. Since then, Jetstream has evolved to include adult members alongside juniors and families, and is open to all abilities, as well as those who prefer to focus on only one or two of the three disciplines. Today the club has approximately 130 members, a full committee, a team of qualified and experienced coaches, and an active and vibrant member engagement and training schedule.
Jetstream Tri Club is Triathlon England affiliated, is part of the British Triathlon Federation and has been awarded TriMark Bronze Club accreditation. The club is also a registered Community Amateur Sports Club. Jetstream is committed to improving how the club operates, and what it offers its members and the communities around the club; in order to do this, we continuously seek new opportunities and ways to progress and develop. Particular areas of focus are sustainability, diversity and inclusivity.
