Our Training Schedule
We run regular swim, run and cycle sessions each week. Details of each are in the section below

Swimming, Running and Cycling
Swimming Coaching
- Our coached swim sessions are based on the Swim Smooth methodology. The sessions are designed to help triathletes of all levels build confidence, technique, and endurance in the water. Whether you’re looking to build stamina or refine your stroke efficiency, our experienced coaches provide structured workouts tailored to your ability.
- In our sessions swimmers are generally grouped by ability to ensure everyone gets the right level of challenge and support. Drills and interval training help improve speed and endurance, while feedback from coaches helps refine your stroke mechanics for maximum efficiency. In the run-up to race season we also incorporate drafting, sighting, and turn techniques to better prepare you for open-water conditions.
- Beyond the physical benefits, our coached swims offer a motivating and encouraging atmosphere where members push each other to improve.

Running
- Our coached run sessions are designed to help triathletes improve speed, endurance, and running efficiency, whether you’re training for a sprint triathlon or a full Ironman. Led by experienced coaches, these sessions focus on essential techniques such as good running form, pacing strategies, and injury prevention. Through a mix of interval training, hill repeats and tempo runs, athletes build the strength and stamina needed for race day.
- Training is structured to accommodate all levels – athletes complete the warm-up and drills together, while the main set can be tailored to different abilities where needed. Coaches provide real-time feedback, helping members fine-tune their technique, optimise their stride, and improve efficiency to run stronger, longer and faster with less fatigue.
- Adult and junior sessions are held separately. Junior sessions are always off-road and often combine running and cycling skills, a form of duathlon training which also enables transition training. Adults run at different venues depending on the time of year.
- As well as improving physical conditioning, our running sessions foster a supportive and motivating environment where athletes encourage each other to improve.
Cycling
- Our member-led social bike rides offer a fantastic way to enjoy cycling in a relaxed and friendly environment while building endurance for triathlon events. These rides are designed for all levels, with different pace groups to ensure everyone feels comfortable and included. Whether you’re looking for a steady recovery ride, a longer endurance session, or just a fun way to explore new routes with fellow athletes, our social rides provide the perfect balance of training and camaraderie.
- Unlike structured training sessions, these rides are more about enjoying the journey and connecting with fellow club members. The focus is on keeping the ride inclusive and enjoyable, with designated regroup points and no-drop policies to ensure no one is left behind.
- In addition to the physical benefits, our social bike rides strengthen the club’s sense of community, offering a chance to chat, share training experiences, and build friendships outside of race-day intensity. Most rides include a cafe stop about halfway through, providing the perfect way to rest, refuel, and get to know other fellow riders.

Special Events – we organise a number of different special rides during the year, such as to a distant destination and take the train home, or to a new parkrun for a mini-duathlon
Destination Rides
Once or twice a year, experienced members organise what is called a destination ride. This is different from a Sunday social ride in that it covers a long-distance at a faster pace. Riders are grouped by ability and set off in different waves, each with a dedicated ride leader and where possible or necessary, a co-leader. The Northwood to Brighton ride has been popular in recent years, with the dreaded Ditchling Beacon to conquer before a lovely freewheel into Brighton.
Ride to Run Events
These are similar to the destination rides in that the focus is gepng to a destination by a specific time. Here, the members meet early on a Saturday morning and ride to and take part in a parkrun. The most popular ride to run event is by far the Bushy Park parkrun in Richmond upon Thames. The highlight is a hearty post-parkrun breakfast at a local cafe before cycling home.
